Welcome to our weekly Tech Pick round up, where we showcase your recommendations for start-ups doing cool things. For those of you just joining the fun, the Tech Picks of the week are recommendations that have been tweeted every tuesday to our @techpioneers acount with the #techtuesday tag. The results are posted here on Friday, because after a busy week the team really likes seeing what the rest of the web has been up to.
Tech Pioneers:
Raise Money for Good Causes – We spotted Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley, talking about @crowdrise- a platform that allows anyone to use their social network to raise funds for a particular cause.
TP Team:
This week we have a few recommendations from the Team.
- Self-Recharging Fuel Systms for Backup Power- our TP Director Olivier spotted a company in Italy that specializes in mission-critical backup power applications. Electro Power Systems' products currently have the largest intalled basis in Europe.
- Aggregate your Twitter Feed: My pick for this week is Paper.li, a web tool that allows you to summarize your twitter feeds or lists into dynamic newspapers that can be shared with your online network. The papers can be published weekly or daily and have been a great way to keep up with our TP 2011 pioneers. You can check our our fancy daily newspaper here.
Your Picks:
- Read Content Later – Marketing Guru @MitchJoel picked @Instapaper, a company that had also been spotted by Tech Pioneer @Knewton last week. I've had a few colleagues here at the Forum also mention this company to me so I've I'm going to be keeping my eye on it over the next few weeks.
- Remember Everything- All the way from Australia, @Jasonbereklewis recommended @evernote a fabulous tool that enables you to capture anything you see, hear or read and then access it from any device.
- Get Answers- Last week @prezi was one of the tech picks and they decided to pay it forward by recommending @quora, a cool place for people to ask and answer questions. It's being touted as a cumulative knowledge gathering platform. It's founded by Facebook's former CTO & VP of Engineering, Adam D'Angelo and several other ex-Facebookers.
- Crowdsourcing Pay per Click Marketing – @crowdrise recommended @trada, a company that leverages the talents of its network of 700 pay per click experts to give each campaign the best chance possible of succeeding.
The Boulder Connection:
@Trada also had a slew of companies to recommend and gave a big shoutout to the good work happening in Boulder, Colorado. They gave so many suggestions I'm putting it in a stand-alone section!
- Track your Blog – @lijit offers free custom search tools, stats and advertising services for blogs and websites.
- Panorama on your iPhone – @occipital's iphone app allows users to create a real time Panorama using the camera on the iPhone4 or 3Gs.
- Actionable Intelligence for the Music Industry- @nextbigsound understands that thanks to the web finding and purchasing new music has moved online. Their platform provides a centralized place to monitor both online and offline activitity for artists.
- Control Physical Devices – @orbotix works with consumer brands to create phone controlled open devices to market. I have no idea what that means since they are in private alpha, but it sounds awesome.
- Incubate good ideas- Boulder is also home to @techstars, a mentorship driven seed stage investing for web and software start ups.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions! The Team and I are really enjoying learning about interesting ventures happening all over the world and we hope you keep participating in our #techtuesday! Have a great weekend!
