Geopolitical conflicts are side shows to the economic crisis, unless a real conflict with a nuclear North Korea develops. Economic policies across Asia, (China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, etc.) can be summarized in two words: export and save money. The current crisis clearly shows Asian economies can no longer depend on American consumers to fuel their GDP growths and employment. It is unclear how does one replace the big US market, for sure this will not happen over night. Besides, just getting Asian consumers to spend lavishly beyond their Vuitton, Rolex and BMW are going to be a real challenge. And then, there is the China factor. Their cheap goods are already putting heavy pressure upon fledging industries in many developing countries like Vietnam, Thailand, or Phillipines. Even Korea and Japan will have to compete with a more technological savy China in export markets.
