Mexico’s economic and political landscapes are of particular interest to me as a political science graduate and as a U.S. born Mexican-American. Mexico has at least one natural resource (oil)which could have established it as a competitor in the world market. However due to the less than civic-minded,inefficient political practices and dishonest,complacent ideologies (by the higher ups) Mexico is as a nation within the global community, economically impoverished, technologically stunted, and politically depraved. It’s citizenry is equally cynical in it’s view of it’s place in the global community as well as it’s trust in it’s government and thier own individual power as citizens to provoke any positive changes (for there are many). With the legal and social chaos which has been surging these past few years as a cause of the drug wars in Mexico and the Mexico-U.S. border any substantial change for the country and more importantly it’s people will be more time consuming to combat than the issues stemming from poverty and political corruption alone. Major affinities shared among the Mexican citizenry as well as it’s indigenous population are that of self-sufficiency, and pride. We do not ask for hand outs, in fact many of us find it shameful. Therefore any assistance the global community would offer to Mexico so that it could have the resources necessary to prop itself to the status of a nation beyond that of a mere developing country would not only be immensely appreciated but also viewed as a debt we are more than glad to reciprocate loyally.
