Forum Twitter Strategy
By: Matthias Lufkens
With almost 200,000 followers on Twitter we have finally got together to see how the Forum can make our Twitter feed more valuable to our followers.
We started a conversation on Twitter about our Twitter feed and received amazing feedback. We then discussed your feedback at an internal Tweetup at the Forum. Here are some of the outcomes of this conversation:
Live Tweeting
An overwhelming majority of our followers like @anjali28 said yes to live tweeting from Davos and our regional summits. Staff permitting, you can expect to read (or ignore) our Twitter frenzies from Brazil, Jordan, South Africa and Korea over the next months.
Twitter Interviews
Twitter interviews was another hot item requested by our followers. As @spellrus suggested we plan sporadic interviews, talks or briefings with world leaders on Mogulus where you can ask questions on Twitter or via the chat function. We plan our next Q&A with our senior economist Irene Mia, about the Global Information Technology Report which will be released on 26 March 2009 at 17.00 CET.
Twitter Conversation
We wholeheartedly agree with @jessestrada that “Conversation is the essence of twitter!” The direct interaction with our followers was a top priority at our internal Tweetup. Our colleague @sbuckup will have a think about how we can incorporate your ideas into our programmes.
@Replies
To reach us the best is to send us @replies. With 200,000+ followers we might not be able to reply individually to all of your questions. But we will try to address every one of your concerns either directly on Twitter or in a blog post like this one which, we hope, addresses many of your suggestions.
Topics
To make our Twitterfeed more readable we will be using hashtags and brackets. Expect to see #gitr09, #rio09, [News], [Liked] etc…
Retweeting
@jamesbarino suggested we promote our followers. We will refrain from simply retweeting which doesn’t really add any value to Twitter. However we will definitely highlight interesting stuff from our friends, members, partners and participants that we stumble upon as @coccco suggested.
Who Tweets?
One of our major concerns is how can we make our Twitter feed more personal? We have identified several keen Twitterati among our staff. The different “twitterers” will be clearly marked on our main Twitter page.
When to Tweet?
Since many of our followers are based in North America we will make sure that you’ll find a Davos nugget in your timeline every morning, ie early afternoon here in Geneva.
Miscellaneous
@Innovators_JS we hadn’t heard of tweet-preters before but feel free to translate our tweets.
@polyquaternion7 We are on FriendFeed too: http://friendfeed.com/worldeconomicforum
@JerusalemBureau looking forward to meeting you in Jordan in person. We have forwarded your suggestion to the relevant team but it might not happen in such a short time…
