Weblog 0001 – The Diaries of a blog virgin in Davos
So the thing haven’t even started yet and here I go with my first virgin blog. The impression of a day before it even gets going.
14:48 arrive at destination hotel – nobody told me this would be in another town… Klosters. So where’s Davos. Well the shuttle bus seems to work fine, pick up 16:00 hours. Drive to Davos, only to see a security presence a kind to a visit by one or more persons named Bill. Well these days you can’t be too safe.
With registration it’s great to get your own little gizmo that can tell you what the program is and how to get about Davos. This is especially welcomed since my alter ego is Mr. Go go Gadget.
At this point I better reveal myself as one of the Technology Pioneers for whom this experience is very new and overwhelming. When you stand at the welcome reception and talk with a few of the other newcomers, it suddenly dawns on you that people here are not just your ordinary Joe Blog. It is said that the combined turnover of the companies represented at Davos is equal to a quarter of the world’s GDP or the GDP of the United States of America! I was talking with a guy from the US who was into something wireless, and a guy from Germany who did something in car parts. We talked about our companies and the guy from the US said he had some 12.000 people working for him, which quickly prompted the German to comment that he had some 30.000 people working for him. Suddenly my own increase of staff of 200% over the last 12 months didn’t quite seem the same…. we are now 16. (without any zeros).
The highlight of the first day is of course the Bloggers Nightcap. Even though they had to move the event to the opposite side of town it still went down well. It’s great to talk with people who have experience in the sutle art of blogging and still are down to earth and not too nerdi. ( Is this spelt nedi or nerdy I wonder). Every time I meet new people I get this AHA experience, it is inspiring to get to know WEF participants and I look forward to the days to come.
Thanks to all and goodnight.
