A major topic of discussion is climate change. President Bush included it in his State of the Union speech yesterday. Many people mentioned that it is one of the warmest winters in Davos.

What this means is that it’s time to take global warming seriously. Developing countries need to grow their industries and give citizens access to hydrocarbon fuel cars. There will be increased use of natural resources in developing countries. I look forward to an interesting debate on this subject between developing counties and developed countries at Davos.

There is a quiet change happening. The blogging phenomenon is becoming as important as TV. With people becoming citizen journalists, companies will have to look at new models of collaborations with individuals. People may work on research projects in partnership with companies. Depending on how countries and societies accept it, it will reform governance processes. The role of NGOs will increase and they may become a watchdog, a governance mechanism for society.

Companies like Infosys have a role in transforming companies in the Web 2.0 environment. These are early days. I think the definition of ‘flat world’ will evolve in the next 2-3 years.

I believe we have an opportunity to help companies move towards Web 2.0. At Davos, we can make connections with people who have similar perspectives, views and goals.
