OneVoice launches its blog

OneVoice is a non profit launched by Social Entrepreneur Daniel Lubetzky that is trying to help solve the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians:

“OneVoice is a global undertaking designed to amplify the voice of the people and to empower Israelis and Palestinian on the ground to achieve a consensus on core issues that can form a roadmap for conflict resolution.” Link

Ideas on how to address conflicts in the Middle East? The wide political framework might be a start.
At last years gathering of the WEF, the S-G of the United Nations spoke of global threats. Kofi Annan was so concerned about these threats that he appointed a panel in 2003 to research them. His speech included: “The panel defined a threat as any event or process that . . . undermines states as the basic unit of the international system”.
The European Union is an interesting development. States are grouping together under the EU – however the EU is not promoted, even as a model, by the UN. Individual states in the EU still retain their separate identity throughout the UN system. There’s no limit to the number of states. The “basic units of the international system” are therefore forever increasing, they’re not reducing (now nearly 200).
Should this proliferation, or the EU, be the way forward for governance? Individual governments might prefer the status quo forever.

I think the key sentence in “J’s posting is the final one: Individual governments might prefer the status quo forever. The thing is, individuals won’t. They live the reality on the ground day to day. OneVoice’s biggest asset is its emphasis on the grassroots and providing a platform for those individuals to group together and have a bilateral voice, a body outside the systems of governance serving as a conduit between Palestinians and Israelis that doesn’t get bogged down in political posturing or outside politics. Ambitious? Of course. Feasible? I’d like to hear what J and Loic think.
